Botox Treatment in Ocala
Many people find it curious to learn that the dentist provides BOTOX® treatment. The truth is that the dentist is one of the most educated healthcare professionals regarding soft tissues, muscles, nerves, and blood supply of the face. This makes the dentist one of the most qualified practitioners to supply BOTOX® treatment. At Weldon Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry of Ocala, we are dedicated to the development and maintenance of oral health for our patients but we understand that aesthetic concerns are of major importance to many. If you are unfamiliar with BOTOX®, we encourage you to read below!
What is BOTOX® Used to Treat?
Facial wrinkles are inevitable. Fatigue in the facial muscles occur as we age. Chewing, smiling, frowning, and squinting eventually will change the facial musculature. The resulting wrinkles make a person appear older, fatigued, or even angry. BOTOX® treatments are carefully placed into the specific facial muscles that create the wrinkled appearance. This causes these muscles to weaken and makes the face appear well rested and youthful.
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a prescription medication that is designed to be injected into the muscles. The form of BOTOX® utilized to treat esthetic issues is botulinum toxin A which is a purified protein. Thoroughly studied in scientific research, BOTOX® is generally safe with relatively few potential side effects. The mechanism of action is relatively simple. Upon injection, the chemical will enter into the muscle and attach to the motor nerve endings on the targeted muscles. This will inhibit the muscle contraction and result in a smooth appearance. Since the motor unit is the only part of the muscle treated with BOTOX®, there is no effect on sensation.
What is the Procedure?
BOTOX® treatment is a relatively simple procedure. Our team will apply a topical anesthetic to lessen discomfort upon administration. A small injection will be applied to specific muscles. Results begin anywhere from 3 to 10 days after administration.
The results of BOTOX® are temporary. The length of effect is anywhere from 3 to 4 months. The timeline of action depends on many different factors. Dr. Weldon and his team would be happy to provide a more accurate estimate depending on your particular situation.
The number of injections vary as well. For crow’s feet, typically 2 or 3 applications will be required. For furrowed brow or other more aggressive treatments, more applications will be needed. It is important to note that when the effects of BOTOX® are gone, they are eliminated completely. This means that for BOTOX® candidates, multiple treatments are allowed.
